Sermon - “An Audience of One”
Sermon by Markus Watson on March 2, 2008
This is the third sermon in the series titled “An Alternate Reality”
Theme – Jesus teaches us that we are to do certain things “in secret”–give to the needy, pray, and fast. What does that mean? Does that mean we are at all costs to keep our good deeds secret? I don’t think so. The question is not are we seen doing a good deed, but are we doing a good deed in order to be seen. Our motivation for doing good needs to be good. And when we understand that God is really our only important audience, our priorities will begin to line up. We won’t worry about “treasures on earth,” but focus on “treasures in heaven.” And as our focus changes, our anxieties disappear. This is the life of one whose life is focused on the “audience of one.”
The following video was used as an illustration in the sermon.
