Theme – When Jesus asked his disciples if they’d caught any fish, it wasn’t until they had said no–until they had admitted their own emptiness–that they could receive the blessing Jesus offered them. In the end, the greatest gift was not their enormous catch of fish, but the community they discovered with each other and with the risen Jesus. The same goes for us. We can’t receive God’s blessing until we admit our own emptiness; and when we do, we discover the greatest gift is deeper community with God and with each other.
The text for the sermon was taken from John 21:1-14.
