This sermon is from the series titled “Christian Atheism” and is inspired by the book “The Christian Atheist: Believing in God but Living As If He Doesn’t Exist“, as well as other sources.
Theme – When we are hurt, wounded, injured by another person—as we all were on September 11, 2001—not only do we not want to forgive that person, sometimes we want revenge. Is it ok to feel that way? And is it ok to tell God that we feel that way? The psalmists sure seemed to think so. As we look at Psalm 109, we find an authentic prayer of rage. Is it possible that such expressions of prayer can actually help us to love those who have hurt us?
This morning was a remembrance for the events of September 11, 2001, and about forgiveness.
Kevin Roof, a firefighter paramedic from Coronado CA, participated in the service. Kevin was on site in New York following 9/11.
